The newly elected US President Donald Trump promised the leader of South Korean Park Geun-hye that the United States will fulfill its commitments to defend the South Korea in case of an aggression from its northern neighbor, reports the BBC.

The conversation that took place over the phone is informed by the personnel of Park Geun-hye, reports the Yonhap. Trump agreed with the South Korean leader to develop ties between two countries.

In 2016 the North Korea tested ballistic missiles several times. In September, the North Korea carried out the fifth successful nuclear test. In response, the United Nations has intensified sanctions against the North Korea, whereas the US military aviation carried out several demonstrative flights in the sky of the South Korea. In addition, the US intends to deploy THAAD missile complex in the South Korea, despite objections from the North Korea and China. Washington and Seoul insist that the measures are taken solely for protection against possible threats from the North Korea.
