President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan supports creating of a “hotline” between Armenia and Azerbaijan for rapid response to events at the line of contact, president said in an interview with Rossiya Segodnya general director Dmitry Kiselev.

“Yes, we are ready, if there is benefit, and if we are able to react quickly to the events. For example, someone is shooting at the line of contact, and, according to our data, the Azerbaijanis are shooting, I pick up the phone, call the president of Azerbaijan to tell him: ‘they are shooting’. And he actually checks the reports,” the President said.

The President said he is ready to say exactly whether the Armenians forces are shooting or not, and he is expecting the same attitude on the part of the Azerbaijani leader. He added that in the 1990s, when he was a defense minister, an attempt was made to create such a hotline. There was direct contact between the defense ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan for extraordinary cases, when urgent communication was needed.

“No line exists now,” he said.
