YEREVAN. - The customs points of Meghri (Armenia) and Norduz (Iran) will exchange information in real time regime.

The Memorandum of Understanding, providing for this and a number of other provisions, was signed in Yerevan on Thursday by the Chairman of the State Revenue Committee (SRC) of Armenia Vardan Harutyunyan and head of the Iranian Customs Service Massoud Karbasian, the SRC press-service reports. 

The customs officers agreed to ensure free transportation of passenger cars. For this purpose they will come up with an initiative to cancel the road and guarantee payments collected from the cars of the two countries, which cross the common border.

The two agencies will also publish on their websites information on the requirements of the national customs legislation, which is in the interests of business.

Besides, rules of transporting goods of personal use and monetary means will be precisely pointed out to passengers. The information will be placed on the information boards in Meghri and Norduz border points.

''The customs sphere directly impacts the development of trade and economic relations between Armenia and Iran. The cancellation of visa regime between the countries will help tourism and trade, the border crossing becoming easier and faster. Being an EAEU member, Armenia can become a gate to this market for Iran,'' Karbasian noted.

The partners also considered other prospects for cooperation in the area of customs administration. The draft agreement between the Armenian and Iranian governments on the joint use of Meghri-Norduz customs gates - under which formation of a joint committee is provided - was also discussed.

''We will exchange the list of conscientious economic entities, so that they can pass through customs control easier. This doesn't refer to smugglers; both countries will continue to struggle against them,'' Harutyunyan noted.
