The European Parliament has accused Minsk of violating democratic values. The resolution accepted on November 24 says, that the number of new political prisoners in Belarus increases, and the opposition is being intimidated, reports the DW. 

The European MPs pointed out that since 1994, there have not been held free and fair elections in the country. In addition, the key sectors of the Belarusian economy are still under state control. The document mentions that Belarus is the only European country, that applies death penalty: in 2016, the country's supreme court sentenced four people to death.

European parliamentarians have expressed concern over the lack of safety measures of the first nuclear power plant in Belarus, which is being built on the border with Lithuania. The European Parliament insists that there be international supervision of the project, so that all safety standards are maintained. 468 MPs voted in favor of the resolution, 21 against, 93 abstained.
