YEREVAN. – Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, was in an unenviable position at the annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA).

Head of the National Assembly of Armenia delegation to the NATO PA, Koryun Nahapetyan, noted the abovementioned at a press conference on Friday.

As per the Armenian MP, in his remarks at the event, Çavuşoğlu spoke about conflicts, including the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, and therefore the Armenian delegation members had to raise relevant issues.

“In connection with relations with Turkey, we noted that Ankara has adopted a ‘zero problems with neighbors’ policy, in the case when its armed forces have entered the territory of three neighboring states,” stated Nahapetyan. “We stressed that Turkey plays a negative role in the Karabakh conflict, especially after the events in [early] April [when Azerbaijan had unleashed a military aggression against Artsakh].”

The Armenian MP added that Turkey continues to play a negative role in the South Caucasus and in the Middle East, alike.

In his words, Turkish officials gave a nervous reaction to the questions posed by the members of the Armenian delegation to the NATO PA.

“Foreign Minister of Turkey, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, (…) reflected on the Armenian Genocide topic, albeit we [i.e. the Armenian delegation] hadn’t even mentioned it, and said Armenians spread a lie to the world,” added Nahapetyan. “On the next day, during the Q&A with chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Turkey,  Hulusi Akar, reference was made to the [Armenian] Genocide; to the fact that how many countries have recognized this crime against humanity.”
