YEREVAN. – The most probable scenario of developments around Karabakh conflict is continuation of situation of “neither war, nor peace”, Russian political scientist Alexander Skakov told Armenian News - NEWS.am.
“The possible scenario of Karabakh peace process is known (independence and guarantees in exchange for a part of regions around the former Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Oblast except for Lachin and Kalbajar) but this scenario satisfies none of the parties of the conflict. The parties are not ready to compromises and nobody has desire to force them to do that. Armenia, and especially Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, are not ready even to think about liberating even part of the regions around Nagorno-Karabakh, Baku is not going to think about the independent status of Karabakh. The parties do not trust each other catastrophically, and, in general, they are right. Therefore, the most probable scenario is continuation of a situation of "neither war, nor peace” as unfreezing of the conflict by a large-scale war could lead to unpredictable consequences. The status quo satisfies none of the parties but nobody can provide a new status which would satisfy, at least even one of them,” Alexander Skakov said.
