YEREVAN. – I have decided to run in the parliamentary elections.

Former Defense Minister of Armenia, Seyran Ohanyan, on Saturday told the aforementioned to RFE/RL Armenian Service, at Yerablur Military Pantheon in capital city Yerevan.

Ohanyan noted that he wishes to take part in the establishment of a system of governance that shall bring a new culture in the country, and which shall also be tested in the country because, in his view, the system that was created after the Constitutional amendments is a novelty in the Armenian scene.

“We are going [to run in the forthcoming parliamentary election] for the sake of the country’s development, so that security issues are placed on high grounds,” added the ex-defense minister. “We see that the [Armenian] army is an established structure; it’s moving forward thanks to the new leadership. But the rear of the army needs to be solid, and, for that, there should be developments also in various domains.”
