A new 223-kilometer highway, linking the regions of Kvemo Kartli and Samtskhe-Javakhet, will be put into operation in eastern Georgia.

U.S. governmental program Millenium Challenge allocated U.S. $ 203m for the reconstruction of Tbilisi-Tsalka-Ninotsminda-Akhalkalaki-Kartsakhi highway, leading to the Georgian state border with Armenia and Turkey, Novosti-Georgia reports.

According to the local authorities, the highway will be of both economic and political significance.

It is noteworthy, Samtskhe-Javakheti is mainly inhabited by Armenians, whereas Ninotsminda and Akhalkalaki – by 96-98% of Armenians.
