Germany’s former foreign minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has been elected the president of Germany, RIA Novosti reported.

The president is elected by the Federal Convention consisting of 630 members of Bundestag and 630 delegates from the Länder parliaments,

Steinmeier has been considered the main candidate after former president Joachim Gauck; refused to run for the second term.
