Russia and China blocked the UN Security Council resolution, which calls for sanctions against Syrian officials who were involved in the use of chemical weapons in the country, RIA Novosti reported.

The authors of the draft resolution are two permanent members of the Council, France and the UK, later supported by the United States. The document stipulates sanctions on 21 Syrian officials allegedly linked to the use of chemical weapons in 2014-2015.

Russia and China, which are permanent members of the UN Security Council, imposed a veto on the document. It is the already the second time since the beginning of the conflict in Syria that Russia has voted against resolutions about the situation in Syria.
