North Korean arms banned by the U.N. sanctions are illicitly sold to African states, reads the United Nations’ annual report.

According to the U.N. reports, the North Korean leadership avoids the sanctions imposed for its nuclear and ballistic missile programs and develops large-scale military cooperation with African countries from Angola to Uganda. 

In particular, North Korea trains and equips African militaries. Thus, Congo’s government bought automatic pistols from North Korea to equip presidential guards and special units of the national police. Angola’s officials confirmed, that North Koreans trained members of the presidential guard in martial arts. In Uganda, North Korea’s military has been training local air force pilots and technicians under a bilateral contract.
