The United Nations should not be associated with such infamous crimes as rape and sexual harassment, said the US Secretary General António Guterres, presenting new strategies to combat sexual abuse by the officers and civilian employees who serve under the UN flag.

“Let us declare in one voice:  We will not tolerate anyone committing or condoning sexual exploitation and abuse.  We will not let anyone cover up these crimes with the UN flag.  Every victim deserves justice and our full support.  Together, let us deliver on that promise,” "said Guterres.

Guterres also told about his own meeting with the victims of sexual crimes, saying that their stories will remain in his memory forever. The approach of the UN Secretary-General envisages four directions: to prevent sexual crimes, call the perpetrators to justice, be take a responsibility in regard to the victims of crimes, and to raise public awareness about this harmful phenomenon.
