The European Union decided to freeze funding on several integration projects for Turkey, EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn said in an interview with dpa.

He said that negative tendencies that began even before the July coup attempt in Turkey are against “not only the EU standards but the international law as well.”

The EU Commissioner said Turkey is moving not towards Europe, but in the opposite direction.

However, it is not yet clear which payments are suspended and how long this will last. The decision might be made during the upcoming meeting of EU Foreign Mmisters. However, Hahn added that the talks on Turkey’s EU membership are in fact frozen.
