YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) and Tsarukyan Bloc—which is led by opposition Prosperous Armenia Party Chairman and businessman MP, Gagik Tsarukyan—will get the lion’s share of the votes in Sunday’s parliamentary election, and Yelk (Way Out) Bloc as well as the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Dashnaktsutyun Party also may win seats in the National Assembly.

Armenian Sociological Association President Gevorg Poghosyan on Friday stated the aforementioned at a press conference, as he presented the results of a survey they conducted in the country, together with Baltic Surveys/The Gallup Organization.

“Several days before elections, two political forces are enjoying greater voter support: The RPA, for which 30.2 percent of voters are ready to vote, and Tsarukyan Bloc—29.1 percent,” stated Rasa Alisauskiené, a Baltic Surveys/ The Gallup Organization representative, for her part.

In turn, Poghosyan noted, however, that this was not a perfect prediction, since people could still change their view.

In his words, they also had asked respondents which specific person they wish to vote for, and they compared this response with the political force the given MP candidate was nominated from. 

Accordingly, the survey showed that 31.7 percent of respondents will vote for the RPA regional representation candidates, and 21.8—for the respective Tsarukyan Bloc candidates.

Poghosyan added that there are numerous youth among the supporters of Yelk Bloc, whereas many older people support the communists.

It was noted that this survey was conducted from March 18 to 27, and among 1,005 respondents.

In addition, 50 percent of respondents said they definitely will vote on Sunday, whereas 35 percent—probably. Based on previous track-records, however, the voter turnout is expected to be 55 to 60 percent.
