Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel stated on Friday that all the members of G7 tried to persuade US President Donald Trump to support the Paris Agreement, RIA Novosti reports, citing Reuters.

According to the Chancellor, a ''controversial'' discussion took place between the G7 participants on that issue.  

The Paris Agreement signed by 194 countries in December 2015 establishes a world plan on reducing global warming. It doesn't suppose refusal from fossil fuels and limitation of carbon dioxide emissions. But all the parties should take measures aimed at reducing the emissions, technological re-armament, and adaptation to climate changes.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump criticized the aforementioned document, noting that it doesn't correspond to the interests of the country.

The G7 Summit is held in Taormina, Sicily.
