Director of Venezuelan NGO Foro Penal (Criminal Forum), Alfredo Romero, on Tuesday informed that the death toll reached 69 as political protests continue in Venezuela, RIA Novosti reports.

According to the latest official data announced by Attorney General of the country, Luisa Díaz, there were overall 55 casualties. However, as per the information circulated by media outlets, their number is at least 60.

In Romero’s words, 49 people were killed, while the rest died as a result of various incidents, accidents and robbery during the protests.

Mass protests have been staged in Venezuela since early April after the decision of the Supreme Court to seriously restrict the power of opposition-controlled National Assembly. The decision was cancelled but the opposition supporters took to the streets demanding the resignation of court members and snap election. Now they are also protesting against the convention of constitutional assembly, considering this as an attempt to change the country’s Constitution.
