Several NATO member states led by Germany, France, the Netherlands and Denmark are  categorically against holding NATO 2018 summit in Istanbul, TASS reported quoting Die Welt.

As the newspaper noted, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan suggested during the NATO 2016 summit in Warsaw to hold the next two summits in Istanbul. And although the official decision on this issue was not made, it was assumed that the invitation would be accepted. 

Now, however, according to Die Welt, a sharp change of stance is expected.

A diplomatic source familiar with the situation noted that they do not want an impression to be created as if NATO supports the domestic policy of the Turkish government.

The aforementioned countries suggested to hold the meeting  in Brussels, Belgium expressed its readiness to host such a summit.

The official decision will presumably be made during the upcoming NATO defense ministerial meeting in July.
