The first day of summer, June 1, is recognized as International Day for Protection of Children in many places around the world, including Armenia, to honor children globally. 

This day was first proclaimed by the World Conference for the Well-being of Children in 1925, and it was established universally in 1954. 

Ever since 1950, the International Day for Protection of Children is observed in many countries as Children’s Day.

Numerous international documents on the protection of children’s rights have been signed. One of them is the 1989 United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, whereby children have been considered a special vulnerable group.

Armenia ratified this convention in 1992, and in 1996, it adopted the Law on Rights of the Child.

Numerous respective events are organized in the country on this day.
