Poland along with such countries as Guinea, Côte d'Ivoire, Kuwait and Perus has been elected member of the UN Security Council for 2018-2019, Gazeta writes, citing the Twitter page of the Swedish mission to UN wrote.

“The election of Poland in the UN Security Council finalizes several years of efforts exerted by the Polish leadership,” Polish FM Witold Waszczykowski said after the voting results became known, the website of the Polish MFA reads.

The minister stressed that this is a “wonderful victory” for the Polish diplomacy and important success in the foreign policy of the country.

Poland has been elected a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the sixth time. This time, 190 out of 192 countries voted for its candidacy.

Poland will start its two-year work as a UN Security Council member in January 2018.
