The Arabic countries, which have recently made statements on punishing Iran, may be linked to the terrorist attacks that took place in Iran on Wednesday.
Editor of Iran-based Armenian weekly Arax, Movses Keshishian, told the aforementioned to Armenian News – NEWS.am.
In his words, today’s terrorist attack could be expected after the different statements made regarding Iran recently.
''It was expected: there have long been talks on that Iran should get under blow. The threats came from different places—starting from Daesh to other Arabic countries, which threatened Iran. A statement was even made by Saudi Arabia MFA on that Iran should be warned and punished for its stance. Of course, I don't say that they are linked with all this, but one can directly or indirectly think that they might be interconnected,'' he said.
Referring to the reasons behind the terrorist attack in Iran, Keshishian noted: ''With this step attempt is made to put pressure on Iran, especially since there has recently been much talk on that Iran defends the terrorists. Terrorist attack is carried out in Iran like in European countries. But we know that in Europe, Syria and Lebanon, Iran has always resisted terrorists, it being apparent that there is a wish to put pressure on Iran. I can also say that this is a step to reduce the security in the region.''
According to Keshishian, the ISIS terrorist group cannot get established in Iran and have certain influence in the country. In his words, the masterminds behind the terrorist attack were Sunnis, who went to Iran from Morocco, mainly Shias residing in Iran.
''It is a little hard to imagine that Iran will be able to have strong presence in Iran, especially in the central regions of Iran, since Daesh members are mainly sunnis, there being mainly Shias in Iran. The people behind today's terrorist attack in Iran were mainly Arabs from Marrakesh. The specialists claim their talks and accent were close to Moroccan. There is also one detainee, who is also an Arab, that is they have come from abroad,'' the editor noted.
Gunmen and suicide bombers on Wednesday carried out attacks on Iran’s parliament and the mausoleum of revolutionary founder Ruhollah Khomeini in capital city Tehran, killing 12 people and injuring over 30 others.
The Islamic State militant group has claimed responsibility for these attacks.
