UN Secretary-General UN Secretary-General António Guterres paid an unannounced visit to Afghanistan on Wednesday. He stated that the aim of his visit is to stand with the Afghani people, Radio UN reports.
As a sign of solidarity, Gutteres joined the faithful Muslims, who keep a fast in their sacred month of Ramadan. The Secretary-General first visited the camp of internally displaced people in Kabul.
“Peace is the solution […] the international community, the neighboring countries [and] all those related to the Afghan crisis need to come together and understand that this is a war that has no military solution. We need to have peace” he said, urging the international community to strengthen measures for providing humanitarian aid to the Afghani people.
