Two women suicide bombers, hiding among a group of fleeing civilians, targeted Iraqi troops in Mosul, killing one soldier and wounding several, AP reported.

The attack happened on Monday morning in the area of the destroyed al-Nuri Mosque. The suicide bombers appeared from the basement and blew themselves up.

As the Iraqi military noted, using women as suicide bombers is apparently the latest tactic by the militants.

It was reported earlier that Iraqi government troops seized the  ruined mosque in Mosul from where Islamic State proclaimed its self-styled caliphate three years. Iraqi authorities expect that the long fight for Mosul will end in the next few days as the remaining Islamic State fighters are now bottled up in just a handful of neighborhoods of the Old City.
