October 16 is marked in Armenia as Armenian Press Day.
It was on this day in 1794 when the first Armenian language newspaper, Aztarar (Herald), was published in Madras (now Chennai), India.
On this occasion, and by the decision of the government of Armenia in 2004, October 16 was declared Armenian Press Worker’s Day, and later it was renamed as Armenian Press Day.
