YEREVAN. – Deputy Speaker of the Armenian parliament Eduard Sharmazanov offered to give a priority to families of the Armenian descent when children are adopted by foreigners.

His remark came in the parliament during the discussions of the amendments to the Family Code.

In case of the adoption, the priority is given to Armenian citizens, but it is necessary to give a priority to foreign citizens of Armenian origin, said Sharmazanov, adding, “Most of the Armenians live outside the country. Perhaps, our brothers and sisters would like to adopt Armenian children. I think it is right to give priority to Armenian families.”

Deputy Minister of Justice Suren Krmoyan noted that the priority will be given to the Armenian families taking into account national and cultural interests.
