Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan participated in the Dec. 24 meeting of the Council of Yerevan State University (YSU). The meeting summed up this year.

The RA presidential press service informed NEWS.am that, before the meeting, the President was shown the laboratories of the Natural Science Department. The labs have been provided with cutting-edge equipment this year. The equipment was purchased under a 3-month program launched at the Armenian President’s suggestion at the Council’s sitting last year.

The Council approved the YSU Rector’s report on the education activities in the academic year 2009/2010.

“I think we must seek to meet European standards. If we can say we ensure such education, we can he satisfied with what we have done. However, what I have just said does not at all mean nothing has been done. I see progress,” the President said.

The Armenian leader also addressed social programs. “I am happy that some social problems have been resolved. I am happy that 315 of the YSU staffers, that is, 315 families, can say they have flats. We continue the programs - not only within the university, but also throughout the country,” President Sargsyan said.
