On September 14, 2009 an earthquake, the strongest in recent years in South America, shocked Caracas, Venezuela, Reuters reports.

Tremors of 7 points (Richter scale) by U.S. Geological Survey were registered. Afterwards the survey representatives clarified that 6.4 magnitude earth shocks hit the region. The quake was felt across the country. No victims and destructions were reported.

In North Caucasus, September 13, RA National Service of Seismic Defense informed of 4.4 magnitude quake near Oni, north-west of Georgia. The region was affected by three earthquakes reaching 8 points these days. No victims were reported, however hundreds of houses collapsed.

The shocks were perceptible in North Caucasus, including North Ossetia, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria and Stavropol region.

The reaction forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are kept standby.
