YEREVAM. – The increase in monitoring capabilities in Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone may contribute to reducing tension, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian told reporters on Monday when summing up ministry’s activities in 2017 (photos).

According to the Foreign Minister, a corresponding arrangement was reached in Vienna, but Azerbaijan refused to fulfill it. This issue was again discussed in Krakow, where the agreement was reached to increase the team of Personal Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk’s by seven people.

“In February, the mediators will visit the region, so let’s see what will happen. We hope that the agreement will be implemented and Azerbaijan will not take a step back,” the minister said.

As to the investigation mechanisms, they have been discussed for the last eight years.

“The issue remains on the agenda. This is an important tool to reduce tension,” Nalbandian said.
