YEREVAN. – The ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) will nominate, at the National Assembly, the candidacy of Armen Sarkissian—the ambassador to UK—as the next President, this week.

NA Vice Chairman and RPA spokesperson Eduard Sharmazanov on Wednesday told about the aforementioned to reporters, after the meeting of the RPA executive body. 

In his words, they will collect the necessary signatures and nominate Sarkissian’s candidacy within the week.

“At the forthcoming four-day [NA sessions], we will nominate also the candidacies for the five members of the supreme judicial board,” Sharmazanov added.

He noted that the NA elections for the next President and for the supreme judicial board members will be closed and be conducted by secret ballot.  

The RPA spokesperson, however, did not disclose the names of their candidates for members of the supreme judicial board.

As per Eduard Sharmazanov, the ruling party’s executive body discussed also the next local elections in Armenia.

“RPA has nominated candidates in all 20 communities,” he noted, in particular, adding that they are ready for open competition.
