After the lower house of the Dutch parliament’s approval of the motion recognizing Armenian Genocide, the chargé d’affaires of the Netherlands was summoned to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA), according to Daily Sabah newspaper of Turkey.

“We call on Dutch politicians to review their unsubstantiated attitude toward Turkey and not to politicize history,” Turkish MFA spokesperson Hami Aksoy said in a written statement.

As reported earlier, lawmakers in the lower house of the Dutch parliament approved the motion recognizing Armenian Genocide.

Acting Foreign Minister Sigrid Kaag, however, said that the Dutch government would not follow the parliament’s lead. Kaag says the Cabinet will “continue to exercise restraint.”

Acting Minister said that a Dutch cabinet member will be present in Yerevan in April at the commemoration of Armenian Genocide.
