Starting from January 1, 2010 an IT sector is exempted from taxes in Georgia. Late last year, the Georgian parliament approved a law “On Information and Communication Areas” according to which IT companies will be tax-free. It particularly refers to tax export and after-tax profit from companies’ oversees activities.

Such tax policy creates competitive conditions for IT-sphere in Georgia, doesn’t it? Meanwhile, ten years ago IT was named a priority sector in Armenia, but no tax concessions were offered. 

Armen Abrahamyan, Competitive Armenian Private Sector (CAPS) Project, IT Cluster Coordinator, told NEWS.am - Innovation that after a new law was approved in Georgia, Armenians started setting up companies there, while working in Armenia. 

According to Abrahamyan, Armenia also takes certain steps for the development of IT-sphere, but they are insufficient.
