On January 10, representatives of the Armenian community headed by Vazgen Mirzakhanian, Primate of the Armenian Diocese of Georgia and Armenian Ambassador to Georgia Hrach Sivanyan visited Patriarchate of the Georgian Orthodox Church. They were met by Metropolitan Gerasim, responsible for inter-church relations of the Georgian church.
Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II received the Armenian delegation and on behalf of Georgians congratulated the Armenian nation, Armenian Church and Armenian President on New Year and Holy Christmas, Armenian diocese of Georgia informed NEWS.am.
Ilia II expressed his respect towards Armenians and called to be faithful to age-old Armenian-Georgian friendship, expressing confidence that problems between our churches and nations will be overcome through joint efforts.
Patriarch of All Georgia is hopeful that Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II will visit Georgia this year, noting he is ready to warmly meet with Karekin II and reaffirm Armenian-Georgian relations.
Visit of Karekin II to Georgia was several times canceled on the initiative of Georgian Patriarch due to different reasons.
