Azerbaijan agreed on long-term gas supplies to Europe. Today the relevant agreement was signed by European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Volume of supplies and other details are not disclosed yet, Lenta.ru reported referring to AFP. According to representatives of the European Commission, Azerbaijan will supply “sufficient gas”.

Azerbaijan is considered the main supplier of gas for Nabbucco pipeline which Europe tries to use to reduce dependence on Russian gas. In 2011 Azerbaijan plans to supply over 30 bn cubic meters of gas.
