Georgia is a most important link in chain of not only bilateral communication, but also communication with other countries, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan said in an interview with Echo of Moscow.
"Over 70% of Armenia`s trade is through Georgia. We mostly travel through Georgia. So we are trying to conduct a political dialogue and integrate our economies, creating more or less favorable conditions," the Armenian leader said.

As regards the property of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia, the Armenian President said it is a complicated historical issue. "After ejecting atheism we launched the process of returning property to owners. But this process is not smooth everywhere. I am sure the issue will be dealt with. First, we regularly discuss the issue with the Georgian President. Secondly, Georgia has international commitments, it joined the Council of Europe and assumed the commitments. So I am optimistic," the Armenian leader said.

As regards the possibility of sale of the North-South gas pipeline, which supplies Russian gas to Armenia, President Serzh Sargsyan said that Georgian official regularly assure the Armenian side Georgia has no intention to sell the pipeline or the infrastructure. "In any case, Georgia has international commitments clearly saying that we have the right to transit, which is paid for. Not that Georgia is doing us a favor and allows us to transit gas through its territory. We pay 10% for it. It is a very high rate. Otherwise, we will have to sign a contract and pay. And this pay will be much lower. I would not like things to go that far. I think the Georgian leaders are well aware the issues are important for Armenia," the Armenian leader said.

As regards the South Ossetia and Abkhazia problems, the Armenian leader said that Armenia would be happy if Georgian-Russian relations would be better, if not friendly. "It is no secret that Russia is our important strategic partner. On the other hand, we have lived side by side with Georgians for thousands of years and formed good relations. I want Georgian-Russian relations to improve even more than Georgian and Russian do," President Sargsyan said.
