YEREVAN. – The XVII International Organisation of La Francophonie summit will be held in Armenia from October 7 to 12.

The summit itself will be held on October 11-12, and over 80 delegations, observers and partners will take part in its work. Multicolored pomegranate fruits connected in a circle are the emblem of the summit which symbolizes the continents.

The summit is preceded by a number of other events. Early in the morning of October 7, the meeting of the Permanent Council began at the Karen Demirchyan Sports and Concert Complex. The Committee will discuss organizational matters and will study four applications for membership in the organization.

On October 8, a ministerial meeting will be held there, which will continue on October 9. On the same day, the official opening ceremony of the Francophonie village on Liberty Square will be held. Twenty countries will be represented at 40 pavilions. Pavilions will be open from morning until late evening, many cultural and business events are expected.

In parallel, on October 9-10, a business forum will be held in TUMO center. On October 9-12, a congress of francophone journalists will take place in Tsakhkadzor.

The first day of the summit on October 11 will end with a gala concert on Republic Square. One part of the concert will be dedicated to the memory of the world famous French singer of Armenian origin, Charles Aznavour.

On the second day of the summit, documents will be adopted, one of which will be the Yerevan Declaration. Decisions will be made regarding the date and location of the next summit. The summit will be completed by a press conference for the media.

The summit will be attended by French President Emmanuel Macron. Moreover, participation in the event will be preceded by his official visit to Yerevan.
