Details of the talks concerning Georgian churches in Turkey and Turkish mosques in Georgia are not available yet. Georgian FM Grigol Vashadze and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu touched upon the problem during today’s press conference. Davutoglu stressed this field is important for friendly relations between the two states.

“We have common history and the churches which are situated in Turkey’s territory belong to Turkey’s heritage as well. We will complete restoration of these monuments. Meanwhile,  monuments located in Georgia belong to the country’s cultural heritage, in particular those in Adjara and Batumi with large number of Muslims,” Davutoglu said. According to him, restoration of religious monuments in both countries is a good sign.

Grigol Vashadze stressed negotiations between the two states are underway. He added public will be aware of the results as soon as the negotiations are completed.
