We have not written anything on our election platform with respect to making a global amendment to the Constitution.

Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Sunday noted the abovementioned during his talk with the residents of Sisian town, and within the framework of the My Step alliance’s campaign rallies for the upcoming snap parliamentary election in Armenia.

“Changing a constitution, changing the system of government in the country should be justified,” Pashinyan explained. “Now this [new] constitution has been adopted, it has entered into force for a mere seven months; let’s leave it working a bit. [But] if we see that we need to change the [current] parliamentary system [of government in Armenia], that there is a conviction among a great public circle to return to the presidential system again, (…) if you want it, we will do it.”

In Pashinyan’s view, however, some provisions in the current constitution must be amended.

The acting PM recalled that, in the past, they too had repeatedly stated that major steps should be taken so that there will be a clear mechanism for checks and balances within the political power in Armenia.
