YEREVAN. – The new Armenian government will preserve the system of “super-premiership” introduced by the previous regime, leader of Bright Armenia party Edmon Marukyan said.

“Preliminary amendments to the structure and functions of the government proposed by the Cabinet appeared on the web several hours ago. After studying the changes, one can assume that the executive branch plans to mainly change the staff and structure of the ministries and several inspections,” Marukyan said.

The security agencies are guided by prime minister just as during the previous regime, he added.

“Moreover, the State Revenue Committee, which unites tax and customs authorities, remains under the jurisdiction of the government. That is, these bodies are outside the parliament’s supervision and do not become accountable to the legislature. Thus, the Cabinet, in essence, preserves the system of super-premiership of the former regime. If the draft is submitted to the parliament in this form, Bright Armenia faction is going to present its proposals, and will vote against this bill in case the proposals are not accepted,” Marukyan said.
