YEREVAN. – It’s not fair to destroy the Ministry of Diaspora with one decision, said Hrazdan Tokmajyan, a participant in Tuesday’s demonstration outside the Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia, and against the decision to dissolve the ministry.

As per Tokmajyan, the Ministry of Diaspora should not be dissolved for the simple reason that the majority of Armenians live abroad, and numerous Diaspora Armenian organizations keep ties with the homeland through this ministry.

Another protester, Iraqi Armenian Varant Bedrossian, said the Ministry of Diaspora has ties with various Armenian organizations around the world, and these organizations contribute to the constant tie with the motherland.

Also, Bedrossian read the letter by the National Central Board of the Armenian Community of Iraq, and which is addressed to Armenia’s Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

In the letter, Iraqi Armenians raise concern over the decision to dissolve the Ministry of Diaspora, and express the hope that the Armenian government will make a wise decision in this regard.

As reported earlier, Syrian Armenians, Iraqi Armenians, and several other Armenian repatriates who have settled in Armenia on Tuesday are staging a protest outside the Ministry of Diaspora.

They have written a letter against the decision to dissolve the ministry, and which they intend to deliver to the Acting Prime Minister.

As a result of reorganization of the government structure, the number of ministries in Armenia is expected to be reduced from 17 to 12. According to these changes, the Ministry of Diaspora shall be dissolved.
