YEREVAN. – The Ministry of Diaspora of Armenia has submitted to the Ministry of Justice its concerns over and recommendations regarding the dissolution of the Ministry of Diaspora, acting Minister of Diaspora Mkhitar Hayrapetyan on Thursday told reporters.

“We have concerns regarding this matter because it’s not clearly noted which [state] agency will assume those functions which the Ministry of Diaspora carries out,” Hayrapetyan said. “So, we have also informed the political team [of ours] the concerns over its dissolution. I share the concerns of our employees.”

The acting minister said he was confident that changes will be made in the draft document which the government has submitted, and on making amendments and additions to the law on government makeup and activities.

“There will be changes in the document,” Mkhitar Hayrapetyan, “[and] based on the concerns by our and the other ministries, alike.”

The aforesaid draft document proposes to reduce the number of ministries in Armenia, from 17 to 12. Unlike the other ministries, however, the Ministry of Diaspora will not join any other ministry, but be dissolved.
