YEREVAN. – Members of the Bright Armenia Party (BAP) and of the Bright Armenia faction in parliament on Friday attended a church requiem ceremony in memory of those who lost their lives during the tragic events that occurred in capital city Yerevan, in March 2008.

BAP Chairman and Bright Armenia parliament faction head Edmon Marukyan told reporters that many circumstances have not been clarified yet in the criminal case into these events.

“It’s the authorities who claim that [the] March 1 [case] is solved,” he said, in particular, “[But] I hope that we already will see both the organizers [of] and the murderers [during these events] at court, and we will learn the circumstances of that day, and the society will start to go toward reconciliation.”

The MP noted, however, that not much details are known to this day, regarding the criminal case into this tragedy.

As per Marukyan, the respective verdicts that have already entered into legal force need to be reviewed.

“As a result of reviewing the cases, we need to come to a public solidarity, and think [about] (…) how we will build the future [of Armenia],” he added, in particular.

Subsequently, the Bright Armenia representatives marched to Alexander Myasnikyan Monument, and paid tribute to those who died in the events in March 2008.

On March 1 and 2, 2008 the then authorities of Armenia used force against the opposition members who were rallying in downtown Yerevan, and against the results of the presidential election on February 19, 2008. Eight demonstrators as well as two servicemen of the internal troops were killed in the clashes. But no one had been brought to account for these deaths, to this day.
