The words said by the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Marie Yovanovitch prove that politics does not know likes and dislikes. It knows only interests. Arif Yunus, Head of the Conflictology Department, Institute of Peace and Democracy, told Day.Az, as he commented on the Ambassador`s warning against drawing parallels between Nagorno-Karabakh and Kosovo.

"The West is, of course, sympathizing with Armenians. We can always see it, to say nothing of the Armenian Diaspora`s influence there. On the other hand, the United States has its own state interests. Azerbaijan, with its energy resources and geopolitical location, is of great importance for the U.S. than Armenia. That is, the U.S. Administration is sympathetic to Armenians, but U.S. interests make them be balanced and seek to prevent a military conflict in the region. It may be a serious blow to the U.S. interests. It has oil companies and other interests there," the Azeri expert said.

By denying any parallels with Kosovo, the U.S. insists that Armenia and Azerbaijan settle their conflict in a peaceful and political way. "That is the U.S. makes it clear it is not going to press either Armenia or Azerbaijan," Yunus said.
