The Alliance of Freedom Fighters will endorse former commander of the Defense Army of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Samvel Babayan in the presidential elections in Artsakh and has issued a statement on this. The statement reads as follows:

“During its subsequent session, the board of the Alliance of Freedom Fighters discussed several issues, including the announcement of hero of Artsakh, Lieutenant-General Samvel Babayan to run in the 2020 presidential elections of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and the reactions of the incumbent authorities of Artsakh to his nomination.

We believe that the authorities’ explanation that Samvel Babayan lacks citizenship is artificial and is aimed at hindering his participation in the elections, and this approach is more unacceptable from the moral perspective.

With the certainty that our greatest contribution to the liberation of Artsakh and to the ensuring of its security entitles us to express our views and position on the processes unfolding in Artsakh and its future, we declare that, being aware of Samvel Babayan’s concerns and approaches, as well as his proposed tactics to solve the current challenges posing a threat to Artsakh’s security, we will use all possible measures to support Samvel Babayan in overcoming all the obstacles standing in Samvel Babayan’s way of running in the upcoming presidential elections of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.”
