YEREVAN. – The last statement, which the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs have made on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, represents the position of solely the mediators.

Vladimir Vardanyan, an MP from the ruling My Step Alliance, stated the aforesaid during Monday’s press briefing at the National Assembly of Armenia.

The deputy noted that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has already expressed the country’s position on this matter, and added that, during the negotiation process, the parties to the conflict can express their views and positions on this matter.  

At the same time, Vardanyan assessed the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs statement as a unique attempt at summing up the results under the agenda formed in Armenia prior to the velvet revolution in the country.

The My Step parliamentary faction member stressed that the provisions of this statement do not hamper the protection of the rights of Artsakh’s citizens, and noted that this statement needs to be viewed in the context of maintaining the current format of the negotiation process within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group.

Also, Vladimir Vardanyan assessed this statement as “rather positive” positive because, in his view, “it’s aimed at the Karabakh conflict’s solely pacific settlement based on the precepts enshrined in the UN Charter.”
