On 11 March, Chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council Gagik Harutyunyan and member of the Council H. Hovhannisyan had a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Armenia, H.E. Vincenzo del Monaco.

As reported the Supreme Judicial Council to NEWS.am, greeting the ambassador, the chairman of the Council presented the steps taken by the Supreme Judicial Council, the conceptual approaches to complex reforms in the judiciary and the overriding strategic directions for guaranteeing effective justice.

Gagik Harutyunyan noted that the Supreme Judicial Council is the guarantor of independence of the judiciary and that Italy’s experience can also be useful, especially for organizing effective justice, cutting the costs of justice, giving optimal solutions for courts service and making reforms in budgeting for the judiciary.

Ambassador Vincenzo del Monaco expressed gratitude for the substantial meeting and noted that he always focuses on the development of relations between the judicial powers of different countries.

He added that today he is here for that same purpose since the Armenian authorities are turning a new page for reforms in the judiciary. According to the ambassador, Italian judges are expected to visit Armenia in April and will have a meeting at the Supreme Judicial Council as well.

The chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council expressed willingness to meet with the judges and discuss substantive issues.
