YEREVAN. – Azerbaijani side's comments on talks contain old mechanically made definitions, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during Facebook live broadcast when speaking about the meeting with Azerbaijani president and the statements made by Baku.

Saying that he positively assesses the meeting with Aliyev, Pashinyan added: “You know, there is such a problem: the leaders of the two countries, supposedly serious people, meet, speak, discuss, and after the meeting absolutely opposite comments are made. Believe me, this creates a rather serious problem and generally calls into question the seriousness of the whole process. In this regard, it is too important for us to be as correct as possible, to remain as much as possible within the framework of negotiation logic”.

Pashinyan emphasized that the Azerbaijani side had been making statements that, in essence, go beyond the joint statement. He believes too make the negotiations effective, one should somehow forget the old texts that have already shown their inefficiency.

“It is time to be guided by new approaches in the negotiation process. This is what Armenia offers,” he added.

He assured that they were talking about the points outlined at a joint meeting of the Security Council of Armenia and the NKR on March 12 in Stepanakert.

“I said that the participation of Karabakh representatives in the negotiation process is very important for us. I also noted and now I say that this is not a requirement and not an expectation of a change in the negotiation format, not a whim or precondition. This is just a desire to make the negotiation process effective,” he added.

After the talks in Vienna, Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev said the talks were held in a constructive atmosphere and added “the important thing is that the format of the talks has remained unchanged.”

Commenting on this statement Pashinyan recalled that the Armenian side is not talking about changes in the negotiation format.

“The negotiation process chaired by the OSCE Minsk Group, this is beyond doubt. The question is what this format means, essentially. Nagorno-Karabakh has been a party to the negotiations for a very long time,” PM said. “Was the issue of Karabakh participation discussed in Vienna? Of course, yes. Are we really arguing this point? Of course, they argued. Did the parties agree on the matter? Of course, not. Does this really mean that this question will no longer be the subject of discussion? Of course not. This means that the discussion around this topic should continue.”
