Armenian President Armen Sarkissian, who is on a working visit to Portugal, on Tuesday met with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The Portuguese president stressed the close historical and cultural ties between the countries and peoples.

Subsequently, the two presidents exchanged views on possible directions of cooperation.

In particular, Sarkissian noted that Armenia is interested in Portugal’s program on building pads for launching satellites to space, since it has a great scientific potential in this domain.

Also, Armen Sarkissian invited the Portuguese president to pay an official visit to Armenia.

And President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in turn, invited his Armenian colleague to pay an official visit to Portugal.

On the same day, the President of Armenia met with Manuel Heitor, the Portuguese Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

They conferred on the avenues for cooperation in education, science and latest technology, as well as for implementation of joint scientific-technical and scientific-research projects.
