YEREVAN. – Today they are instructing us how we should act. We respect everyone. But let them not stick their nose into our affairs. It’s unacceptable that they teach us how to live.

Vahagn Chakhalyan, a representative of “Kamk” (Will) initiative stated the abovementioned during Friday’s demonstration outside the United Nations Office in Armenia.

The demonstrators began their protest outside the Council of Public TV and Radio Company, they marched to the UN office in capital city Yerevan, and handed a letter to the office.

In the letter, it is noted, in particular, that a transgender person had made a speech during the human rights hearings at the National Assembly of Armenia on April 5, and preached homosexuality.

As per the letter, on April 9, the UN Office in Armenia issued a statement in which it qualified as hate speech the Armenian society’s view that the preaching of sex change and homosexuality was unacceptable.

In the letter, it is also stated that the protesters strongly condemn the homosexuality preaching being carried in Armenia and its support by international organizations and embassies, and view it as a gross interference in the domestic affairs of sovereign Armenia.

Separately, Vahagn Chakhalyan added that the UN applies a double standard, since it has not tried to voice that Armenian citizen Karen Ghazaryan was captured by Azerbaijan, and he was sentenced there to 22 years in prison.
