Raffi Hovannisian, leader of the oppositional Heritage Party who has been on hunger strike for four days, commented on yesterday’s developments in Liberty Square of Yerevan.

During yesterday’s rally held in the square leader of the opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Ter-Petrosyan did not come up to greet Raffi Hovannisian.

“I do not want to give assessment of anyone’s actions. I am fulfilling my civil duty and was present at the rally. I welcome the protestors and their return to Liberty Square.

Each has his own value system and political position. If we were on the platform, while another one were on hunger strike, regardless of whether he is a president, an ordinary citizen, an official, an opposition activist, I would try to be the first to visit him and express my support, share his pain and possibility to meet his demands. In this case I did not have such expectations, but if I were there I would do it,” he said.

Hovannisian stressed that Ter-Petrosyan’s move should be regarded as a political stance.

“Such a political position will not contribute to consolidation of the society and nation, as well as rule of law, but will do the opposite. I do not call or demand anything but everyone should review his position and, why not, political culture,” said the Heritage leader.
