The Istanbul Convention provides victims of crimes with the opportunity to receive help, without being discriminated. This is what deputy of the My Step parliamentary faction Maria Karapetyan told journalists today.
According to her, Armenia's law-enforcement authorities need to give operative responses to the first signals of violence against women.
“Taking into consideration the fact that family is of special significance for the state, there is a need for mechanisms for the prevention of domestic violence. We need to rule out cases when arguments about customs or traditions are accepted as arguments for using violence,” Karapetyan said.
