By the decision of the government, the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures has been recognized as the plenipotentiary body for organizing garbage disposal and in the field of sanitary cleaning across Armenia.

This will provide the opportunity to apply an effective, coordinated and unified policy on garbage disposal and sanitary cleaning in Armenia. It will also provide the opportunity to regulate the regulatory legal field, develop models of waste management, “smart” schemes for garbage disposal and sanitary cleaning in settlements, exploitation of landfills, design and construction of new landfills, procedures, norms and standards for closure of the existing landfills, etc.

Out of the 502 communities in Armenia, garbage disposal and sanitary cleaning are mainly carried out in an organized manner in urban areas and in rural settlements near cities. Based on the data provided on June 1, 2019, there is no garbage disposal in 60 communities of the republic.
